One ought, every day at least to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and, if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words. ~ GOETHE
Hello and welcome!
A passionate life came about through my desire to change the way I live. Nothing drastic — only that I wanted to be more positive, live a more meaningful life and to focus on the things that bring me joy.
I’m Colleen Reagon — writer, amateur photographer, enthusiastic gardener and aspiring cook. I live in Adelaide, Australia with Timo, my amore and the princess dog, Lily.
Amore and I live in the suburbs. We have a comfortable life, own a business, and have two grownup children who have left the nest. We want to change our lives by doing what we love, live more simply, and transition from life in suburbia to somewhere near the sea. We are just beginning the process and there are many decisions to make and stuff to do to realise our dreams.
On these pages you’ll read about my odyssey to live a passionate life — inch by inch. It’s also a journal to record the joy in my everyday, a reminder to be grateful, and to keep me on the straight and narrow for living an authentic, purposeful life.
You won’t find advice here, and I don’t have the secret to living a passionate life. For each of us, living a passionate life is a personal journey and to find joy, all of us walk a different path. These pages are my story but I’d love to hear yours too, so drop me a line!
I believe in:
● sincerity — heartfelt words always win over saying what you think others want to hear
● integrity — honesty and fairness are my friends
● real friendship — the kind that is unwavering through thick and thin
● having the courage of your convictions — being willing to stand up for what you believe
● appreciation — being grateful very day
● good communication — it’s less about talking and more about engaged listening
● beauty — it’s all around us
● words — they are my world
● learning — I’m a lifelong student
● Italy — the place of my heart
● the ocean — a place of meditation and healing
● chocolate and Italian gelato
A few other things about me:
I’m an Aquarian, mother, wife, and dog lover. I practice yoga and pilates, and eat healthily most of the time. I’m an avid reader — a lonely childhood developed a love of books and I’m often reading a few at the same time, including an Italian language novel as well as non-fiction.
What brings me here:
My life evolved to no great plan. I was born in South Africa and emigrated to Australia with my family when I was seventeen. I found a job, found the love of my life and by 25, was a mother of two.
I graduated with a communications degree, worked as a writer and editor in the corporate world and continued my studies in business, PR, visual communication and Italian language.
Life threw its punches and after some scary health issues, Amore and I travelled to Italy. What an eye-opening, life-changing trip it was! After living for years in a sort of limbo, my quiescent heart was aflame with awe and gratitude. I found a place where I felt a sense of belonging, an affinity with the people, an appreciation of the beauty of this ancient land, the musicality of the spoken word.
In short, I fell in love with Italy and all things Italian.
I travelled there every year, sometimes solo, studied my Italian and the rest of the time, I worked in our business. But my life was still blowing in the wind.
Actually it was before now, but it’s taken me a while to let go of who I was and decide who I want to become. And so begins my odyssey to live a passionate life. There is a plan — no more blowing in the wind!
I want to live a meaningful life, not just skim the surface of experiences, I want to live in the present, to find joy in the everyday, and discover the extraordinary in the ordinary.
I’m really happy you’re here and I hope you’ll find something on these pages that resonates with you. So, stay a while and if you’d like to engage and share your own stories, I’d really love it!
